Three Reasons to Visit the Lake of the Ozarks in the Fall

Can you believe we’re just 12 days away from the first day of fall?!

Not sure if it’s just us, but summer sure did zoom by! The Lake of the Ozarks is bustling full of energy during the summer. Lots of people. Lots of parties. Lots of live music, events, and gorgeous fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend. It’s a wonderful time to be at the lake.

As with every summer, it eventually comes to an end. As temperatures drop and the crowds subside, a new, majestic beauty arrives. Fall (or Autumn – whatever you like to call it) at the Lake of the Ozarks is truly magical. If you’ve only visited during the summer, here are three reasons you should make the trek this fall:

  1. Foliage galore: Golds. Reds. Oranges. Browns. If you’re eyes are craving some natural beauty, look no further. Autumn is the perfect time of year to explore around the lake on foot. Navigate trails. Enjoy the peace and quiet. Soak up the wild colors Mother Nature has to offer. The leaves during this time of year even make the Dogwoods jealous!
  2. The crowds are gone: Boats on the lake begin to thin out. Kids head back to school. The pace at the lake begins to slow down. If a tranquil, slower pace is what you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed. Sure, there’s still people. But nothing like the summer. Take advantage of this peace. Our days are often hectic, especially between Halloween until the holidays in December. Come on down and get a much needed breather away from it all.
  3. So very cozy: Fall means cozy jackets, occasional scarves, and all things pumpkin spice. And of course, fall just isn’t fall without a piping hot mug of apple cider. This is also an especially fun time of year to visit the many antique stores found at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here’s a list of some of the festivals and craft fairs happening this fall.

Dinner and an Unforgettable View of the Lake of the Ozarks

Are you craving Mexican food and an unforgettable view?

Sunrise Cantina, located in Osage Beach, is one of the best places to go to get a panoramic view of the lake.

Here’s a recent review from one customer:

This restaurant building has been around for as long as I remember, but I have to say that Sunrise Cantina is the best restaurant that has occupied this space. It has a great view of the lake from high above on the cliff and service is great, along with the food. – Gabi, Kansas City

Open for lunch and dinner, this lakeside cantina offers an abundant menu, from classic burritos to lobster and shrimp tacos for those with a more adventurous palate. They also have a full-serviced bar, with a Happy Hour from 3-6pm, Tuesday through Friday.

Sunrise Cantina is located at 264 Sunset Hill Drive in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.

Wineries In And Around the Lake of the Ozarks

Whether you’re an accomplished sommelier or new to the world of wine, there’s nothing better than tasting wine straight form the source. Everything from tastings to tours, remember you don’t need to head to California to get a rich introduction to the all types of wine.

Here are five wineries in the Lake of the Ozarks area that are a must for a romantic weekend getaway or a vacation with friends.

Seven Springs Winery: Seven Springs Winery and Vineyards sits atop 160 acres of rolling Missouri foothills between Camdenton and Osage Beach. The winery is less than a 10 minute drive from either location. The covered porch and patio area are ideal for enjoying a glass of wine and admiring the beautiful views.

Eichenberg Winery: Fond childhood memories and old German family traditions eventually merged, leading to the birth of Eichenberg Winery in the picturesque town of Cole Camp, Missouri. The winery, housed in what was once an old blacksmith shop, still reflects some of its history with the old, original ceiling beams still in place. According to owners, Rodger and Theila Luetjen, the Eichenberg name when loosely translated means “oak hills.”

Shawnee Bluff Winery: Shawnee Bluff Winery offers wine by the bottle or by the glass. We also offer wine tastings in a beautiful setting with gorgeous views of the Lake of the Ozarks. We are located on Bagnell Dam Boulevard in Lake Ozark, situated atop the bluff with a 14 mile incredible, panoramic view of Lake of the Ozarks.  Originally renovated in 2011, we now have added new decks to enjoy our wine and view, an indoor tasting room and bistro if the weather isn’t ideal, and a new brick oven to prepare the best pizza at the Lake.  We have added a Banquet and Event Hall available for your special occasion of groups up to 50.

Golden Rock Winery: A casual atmosphere with wines made from the finest grapes sourced from vineyards around the world.  Our restaurant menu is based on a green kitchen platform with a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, pizza, pasta – something for everyone !

Casa De Loco Winery: Whether you’re looking for an afternoon picnic spot, an evening glass of wine by candlelight, or a luxurious overnight stay to sweep the one you love off her feet, Casa de Loco is the perfect place to go.  Romance and wineries go hand in hand and at Casa de Loco we are thrilled to go above and beyond to make your romantic getaway completely unforgettable!
