  1. Time to Relax: It’s no secret that most of our days are packed with taking the kids to soccer practice, going to school events, and everything else that fills our calendars. We’re often going at 100MPH. Spending a few days or even a week at the Lake of the Ozarks gives you the perfect chance to slow down. Relax. Lounge around. Nap in a hammock. Soak up the quiet and stillness of nature. Too often, vacations end up being as busy and hectic as our day to day lives. Come to the lake and really let your worries melt away.
  2. Airfare Going Up: Flying to your destination won’t get any cheaper in 2014. According to CNN, seats on airplanes will shrink and fees are likely to increase this year. That means more for checking baggage and more fees when booking your flight. Instead, hop in the car and drive to the Lake of the Ozarks. Road trips are a perfect way to re-connect and enjoy the views along the way.
  3. Something For Everyone: Are you looking for a romantic weekend getaway? A family vacation? A golf outing? A weekend with the girls? There is literally something for everyone at the Lake of the Ozarks. And when you stay at a vacation home rental instead of a hotel, you can have all of the comforts of home without the cost and noise of a hotel. Plus, the Lake of the Ozarks can be fun on any budget!
  4. More Than A Lake: Yes, we love the lake. Boating, water-skiing, and renting jet skis is always a blast. But there’s way more than the lake to keep you entertained. There’s plenty of shopping, fishing, play a round of mini-golf, visit one of the many show caves in the area, see a music show, hike through Ha Ha Tonka Park, visit Big Surf Water park, dig through the many vintage and thrift shops, and eat to your heart’s desire at the lake’s many delicious restaurants.
  5. Beauty All Around: Too often, we’re surrounded by city buildings, lots of honking cars, and concrete parking lots. The Lake of the Ozarks has so many trees, adorned in beautiful colors, a gorgeous, serene lake, walking trails for miles, animals scurrying about, and best of all – FRESH AIR. It’s tough to beat the sunsets and sunrises (if you get up in time) that make getting away so priceless.

December Events at the Lake of the Ozarks

December is the season of togetherness, family, and reflecting on all that happened this year.

We’ve so enjoyed having all our guests – that includes you – down to the Lake of the Ozarks!

Even though December isn’t known as the “peak” time at the lake, we’re grateful for those who are making the trek with their families or friends to stay with us. If you’re planning a last minute getaway for 2013, be sure to search for our properties that have fireplaces and/or a hot tub! There’s no better way to stay cozy during your vacation!

Also, the Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitor Bureau just put out their list of events happening in and around the lake in December.

Recipe: Make Your Own Moonshine This Fall!

Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks are all the rage this time of year.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more boozy. Oh, who are we kidding?! We’re talkin’ A LOT more boozy…then this Apple Pie “Moonshine” from A Taste of Meghan’s Kitchen might be just the ticket!

Word of caution: This drink can sneak up on you if you’re not careful. Wait until a very crisp, cold night to try this drink.

If you give it a go, be sure to snap a photo while you’re making it OR drinking it and post it on our Facebook page. Just another way to celebrate fall! 🙂 Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 Gallon Apple Cider
1 Gallon Apple Juice
3 Cups Sugar
8 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Liter Bottle 190 Proof Everclear, Moonshine or other Grain Alcohol

Directions:

In an extremely large stock pot, combine the apple cider, apple juice, sugar and the cinnamon

sticks. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool.

Once the mixture has cooled add in the liter of alcohol and stir.

Pour (or ladle) the mixture into mason jars. (You can either throw away the cinnamon sticks or

add them to a few of the jars as you are bottling them if you desire.) You can drink the mixture

immediately; however, it does get better after it has sat for a couple of weeks.

This will make approximately 9 quarts of Apple Pie “Moonshine”.
